JOPA MINIATURE SHETLAND PONY STUD BREEDERS

John & Pat Drinkwater began their interest in Shetlands with the purchase of a standard gelding, ‘Park View Dollar’, in 1985. They immediately joined the show circuit, gaining experience and knowledge through contact with other like-minded owners.

The love of the breed fuelled their passion to take their ’hobby’ further. This led to the opening of the ‘JOPA Stud’ in 1991.

The first Miniature Shetland, owned by the stud, was a colt foal named ‘Park View Louie’.

Star and Joy

John & Pat's interest in Shetlands grew and the first two breeding Miniatures bought by the stud were a stallion,‘Kerswell Winston’ and a mare, in foal to ’Kerswell Winston’, ‘Hillyfield Brightness’. Both of these ponies are still owned by the stud.

The stud expanded through the purchase of many mares and a vast number of young stock. 2002 saw the arrival of their second quality stallion, ‘Arlingtonshoecroft the Warrior. Although breeding is the focus of the stud, showing has never lost its importance. The ’JOPA Stud’ currently own 27 ponies ranging from 29 inches to 33 inches in all colours.
