Wildlife
Wildlife - or biodiversity - is
the variety of life, essential to a healthy planet.
Living
Landscapes is the Trust's approach to
work on a landscape scale, within which vital wildlife
habitats are restored and linked to create more robust
habitats within the wider countryside.
Nature
reserves are a vital part of this work
and in the last 25 years the Trust has built up a
diverse range of nature reserves, protecting some
of Avon’s most important wildlife sites, habitats
and species.
Ways
into wildlife is a series of walks within the Avon
area that offers you the chance to explore the natural
world around you and understand our very special local
wildlife.
Avon
Biodiversity Action Plan (ABAP) champions
and promotes local biodiversity and its distinctiveness
through the Avon BAP Partnership. Bird Watch is an
example of a successful local BAP project.
Freshwater
projects are examining the freshwater
habitats and species in the Avon area through the
Avon Pondways Project, the Avonmouth Water Vole Project,
and White-clawed Crayfish Project.
Planning
and Policy work monitors and responds
to major planning applications which may threaten
wildlife in our area, and also works to influence
local, regional and national planning policy.
Environmental
Consultancy work-manages and delivers
a wide range of specialist ecological services, in
liaison with other Trust teams.
Green Infrastructure work
looks at the best ways of incorporating green spaces
into new developments and securing mitigation for existing
developments through wider countryside projects. See
